The Marriage of Figaro
Opening Night
The famous masterpiece of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart «The Marriage of Figaro or the Day of Madness» is an opera buffa (comic opera) composed in 1786.
Although the play by Beaumarchais was at first banned in Vienna because of its satire of the aristocracy, considered as dangerous in the decade before the French revolution, the opera became one of Mozart's most successful works.
The overture is especially famous and is often played as a concert piece.

Puccini - La Boheme
Opening Night
Giacomo Puccini composed «La Bohème», a four-act Italian tragic drama. Libretto was written by Giuseppe and Luigi Illica based on the novel «Scènes de la Vie de Bohème» by Henry Murger.
Puccini's «La Bohème» is one of the frequently performed opera worldwide. Although he competed with Ruggero Leoncavallo of Pagliacci fame, who at that time was also writing the story, Puccini's version of La Bohème proved more popular and lasting, with its poignant story and melodic score of a perfect marriage and true friendships.

Gypsy Love
The Sverdlovsk Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy and Budapest State Opera present the world-famous «Gypsy Love.»
In Ekaterinburg the Franz Lehar’s operetta was performed in 1935 for the first time and gained general acceptance in 1990s. Attila Beres shows masterly the mix of drama and comedy in the eternal love triangle.

Frederic Belinsky - Manouche Project
Attracted by Russian folklore at the age of 16, the young musician Frederic Belinsky made his beginning with well-known Gypsy musicians in the famous cabarets of Paris. Impressed by the virtuoso and feelings with which they played the violin and the balalaika, Frederic was inspired and stroked his guitar in an original interpretation using his new found energy.
His passion for jazz and Gypsy music has only strengthened his love for classical music. He performs J.S. Bach in a series of concerts in France, Finland and Germany. Reputed as an outstanding virtuoso jazz guitarist in Paris, Frederic Belinsky is a young prodigy of music, endowed not only with an amazing technique but also with marvelous musical expression.

Denis Matsuev – Piano
Denis Matsuev has become a fast-rising star on the international concert stage since his triumphant victory at the 11th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1998.
Denis Matsuev has appeared in hundreds of recitals the most prestigious and legendary concert halls throughout the world. Denis Matsuev appears regularly with the most prominent conductors on the stage today, including Lorin Maazel, Yuri Temirkanov and Valery Gergiev.
Over the past three years, Denis Matsuev has collaborated with the Sergei Rachmaninoff Foundation. He was chosen by the Foundation to perform and record unknown pieces of Rachmaninoff on the composer’s own piano. This unique program has been in high demand around the world.
After his triumphal appearance at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Michael Church of The Independent wrote: “Matsuev spent the first half of his concert proving he had an artistic hot-line to his great predecessor. He has the rare gift of letting notes expand in a surrounding stillness.”

Boris Smelov (1951-1998) is an iconic figure in the culture community of St.Petersburg (formerly - Leningrad). Boris Smelovs career started in Petersburg of Dostoyevsky and Gogol.
60 black and white authors’ hand-printed photos are presented at the exhibition.

Francisco de Goya & Salvador Dali
Francisco Goya – «Caprichos». The eighty etchings that make up Goya’s most important series of prints, «Los Caprichos» (1799), have long been recognized as one of the supreme monuments of European art. At the exhibition at least 30 etchings are presented.

Exhibition Devoted to the Olympic Games
Exhibition devoted to the Winter Olympic Games opened in the library of Belinsky. This exhibition comprises over 300 books about winter sports, the history of the Olympic Games and Russian and foreign sportsmen and coachers. Another exhibition «Root for us, Skate with us!» will open in the same building on the fifth floor.
Visitors can get acquainted with winter sports in periodicals, postcards, posters there. Magazines highlighting achievements of Soviet and Russian sportsmen in the past such as «The Olympic Panorama,» «Russian Sport Life,» «Sport Games» and many others are presented among periodicals.

Provincial Dances Theatre
It’s Not a Song About Love
Choreographers: Uri Ivgi & Johan Greben
The theatre «Provincial dances» was established in 1990. Currently, the theatre’s team numbers over 10 dancers and trainees. Its performances combine the art of choreography with visual and dramatic art. The artists employ various styles of European and American dance schools, including classical dance and such techniques of movement as, for example, yoga, body conditioning or acrobatics.
The project is held under the auspices of Intradance (EU-Russia: Contemporary Dance Co-Production), The British Council, The French Culture Center, Goethe-Institut Russland.
