Nikolai Gogol - Dead Souls

The first night of its 77th season - the Dead Souls musical (after Nikolai Gogol). The producers Alexandr Pantykin and Konstantin Rubinsky blended the plot of the novel with their own creative ideas and ended up with a new musical custom-made for the theater.
It took 3 months to make sophisticated theatrical scenery of metal, wood, and fabric.

Gypsy Love
The Sverdlovsk Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy and Budapest State Opera present the world-famous Gypsy Love.
In Ekaterinburg the Franz Lehar’s operetta was performed in 1935 for the first time and gained general acceptance in 1990s. Attila Beres shows masterly the mix of drama and comedy in the eternal triangle. Who wins the heart of beautiful Zorika – an ordinary guy who fell in love or a hot gypsy boy?

The Drama Theater
«The Cherry Orchard» by Anton Chekhov
The Cherry Orchard describes the lives of a group of Russians, in the wake of the Liberation of the serfs. Chekhov's writing style is very pertinent to the population of Russia at this moment. While former aristocrats still patronized the arts, there was also a growing class of less educated, nouveau-rich attending the theater. Chekhov's plays are famous for their simple language, which many hold partly responsible for his popularity. The fact that his play discusses every social class in language that everyone can understand makes his play accessible to people of all backgrounds. It makes high-brow jokes while also being universally comedic.

Alexander Knyazev – Violoncello
Alexander Knyazev is a laureate of the National Cello Competition in Vilnius (1977), the International Cello Competition in Cassado (1979), the Chamber Music Competition in Trapani (1987) with the pianist Ekaterina Voskressenskaya, the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (1990) and the UNISA Competition in Pretoria (1992).
He has appeared with such distinguished conductors as Evgeny Svetlanov, Yuri Temirkanov, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Yuri Bashmet, Maxim Shostakovitch and Neemi Jarvi.
His chamber music partners include Vadim Repin, Nikolai Lugansky, Viktor Tretyakov, Boris Berezovsky, Dmitry Makhtin, Brigitte Engerer, Laurent Korcia, Augustin Dumay and Maria-Joao Pires.
As well as performing, he teaches at the Moscow Conservatory and regularly gives master classes in Europe and Asia.
Alexander Kniazev's latest recording of the complete Bach Cello Suites was released on Warner Classics in 2004. 2005 saw the release of CD of Russian trios by Boris Berezovsky, Dmitry Makhtin and Alexander Kniazev.

Valery Grokhovsky & Igor Bril.
Russian-American jazz pianist and composer Valery Grokhovsky born in Moscow, Russia, Valery Grohovski received his musical training and doctorate from the prestigious Gnessin Music schools. After winning a national piano competition in the former U.S.S.R. he was permitted to compete abroad where he proceeded to win numerous competitions in both Europe and the United States. Valery Grohovski has performed extensively around the world, awing audiences with his unique combination of formidable classical repertoire and his virtuoso jazz improvisations.

New Artifacts of Russia's Art of XX-XXI Centuries for the Period of 2005-2008
This exhibition is a kind of review of new exhibits. Despite the decline in museum purchases in recent years, new exhibits keep coming.
About 200 exhibits were acquired in 2005-2008 from artists, graphic artists, ceramists, and jewelers living in Russia and abroad. The collection of Russia's art of the XX-XXI centuries has been enriched by sculptures and items of the decorative and applied arts (Central Asian ceramics and jewelry).

Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts
Nicholas Roerich's Exhibition
Nicholas Roerich's exhibition Inspiring Space's Breath opened on December 11, in the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts.
The exhibition contains works from the holdings of the International Center - the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich (Moscow) - of about 65 canvases, which depict, besides the well-known Himalayas, for the first time pictures of the so called Karelian Series.
The exhibition includes unique internationally acknowledged architectural projects created by students of the Ural State Architectural Academy and the Institute of Urbanism, among them there is The Russian Space Project: from Philosophy to Architecture.

Warm, warmer still? Photo Exhibition
The exhibition features works by professionals as well as by amateurs, winners of the January 2009 photo competition organised by the British Embassy in Moscow and National Geographic Russia.
Warm, warmer still? is a travelling photo exhibition. The exhibition project was launched on 12 March 2009 in the Winzavod Moscow Contemporary Art Centre by the British Embassy in Russia. It travels to key cultural centres in Russia, including St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, and other Russian cities.

Directed by Gilles Grangier
Two French comic legends, Fernandel and Bourvil, are united in this light comic farce, assuming their real life names for the parts they play in the film. Although barely remembered outside of his native France, Gilles Grangier directed a number of popular French films in the 1950s and 1960s. La cuisine au beurre was one of his most successful films, with over 6 million ticket sales in France.
