New Year’s holidays last from December 31 to January 10 and include New Year (December 31 - January 1) and Orthodox Christmas (January 7). Usually during the holidays theatres, restaurants & clubs organize special New Year & Christmas parties, mostly for families with children. In Russia we call them “Elki” (Rus. - елки).
A holiday party means that Grandfather Frost & the Snow Maiden will appear by all means. They celebrate New Year with children and give them presents.

Alexander Pushkin's Fairytale of the Tsar Saltan
Pushkin's fairy tale gleams with magic and wonder. The story is one of betrayal by two jealous sisters whose younger sister marries Tsar Saltan. They hatch a scheme to drown the tsarina and her son; unbeknown to the sisters (and the tsar), mother and son are aided by a magical swan, who eventually helps reunite the royal family and transformed into a beautiful princess marries the tsarevitch.

Kirill Strezhnev and his colleagues have cooperated with the translator Tamara Skuy for a long time. She successfully translated a number of European operas and musicals that have been staged in Oleg Tabakov's Theatre in Moscow, Lensovet Theatre, and in local theatres in Russia.
Devil&Virgin is a musical by Armando Trovaioli. It was adopted for the Russian audience and named as «Devil&Virgin», though in the original it sounds like «If you could turn back time.»

Jack Frost (Морозко, Morozko) is traditional Russian fairy tale.
Once upon a time there lived a nice, sweet girl, Nastenka. Her wicked stepmother made her work very hard day and night. One day she decided to get rid of her stepdaughter by sending her to a winter forest for her to freeze to death there. In the same land, there lived a lad named Ivan. He fell in love with Nastenka, but, unfortunately, he bragged too much, and was turned for that into a bear by a forest magician.
Both Nastenka and Ivan would have to go through many trials before they are finally reunited. And the one who helped them was the good wizard Father Frost…

Alexander Knyazev – Violoncello
Alexander Knyazev is a laureate of the National Cello Competition in Vilnius (1977), the International Cello Competition in Cassado (1979), the Chamber Music Competition in Trapani (1987) with the pianist Ekaterina Voskressenskaya, the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (1990) and the UNISA Competition in Pretoria (1992).
He has appeared with such distinguished conductors as Evgeny Svetlanov, Yuri Temirkanov, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Yuri Bashmet, Maxim Shostakovitch and Neemi Jarvi.
His chamber music partners include Vadim Repin, Nikolai Lugansky, Viktor Tretyakov, Boris Berezovsky, Dmitry Makhtin, Brigitte Engerer, Laurent Korcia, Augustin Dumay and Maria-Joao Pires.
As well as performing, he teaches at the Moscow Conservatory and regularly gives master classes in Europe and Asia.
Alexander Kniazev's latest recording of the complete Bach Cello Suites was released on Warner Classics in 2004. 2005 saw the release of CD of Russian trios by Boris Berezovsky, Dmitry Makhtin and Alexander Kniazev.

New Artifacts of Russia's Art of XX-XXI Centuries for the Period of 2005-2008
On December 18, the exhibition New Artifacts of Russia's Art of XX-XXI Centuries for the Period of 2005-2008 opened at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ekaterinburg.
This exhibition is a kind of review of new exhibits. Despite the decline in museum purchases in recent years, new exhibits keep coming.
About 200 exhibits were acquired in 2005-2008 from artists, graphic artists, ceramists, and jewelers living in Russia and abroad. The collection of Russia's art of the XX-XXI centuries has been enriched by sculptures and items of the decorative and applied arts (Central Asian ceramics and jewelry).

Nicholas Roerich's Exhibition
Nicholas Roerich's exhibition Inspiring Space's Breath opened on December 11, in the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts.
The exhibition contains works from the holdings of the International Center - the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich (Moscow) - of about 65 canvases, which depict, besides the well-known Himalayas, for the first time pictures of the so called Karelian Series.
The exhibition includes unique internationally acknowledged architectural projects created by students of the Ural State Architectural Academy and the Institute of Urbanism, among them there is "The Russian Space Project: from Philosophy to Architecture."
The exhibition runs December 11 - February 7

This is a story of Moscow University’s student who becomes the owner of ordinary from the first sight, been-used, but… able to fly «Volga» car. With this car he will be able to not only avoid Moscow traffic jams, but unexpectedly for himself turn to city’s defender, mysterious fighter against Evil.
The car is a Volga, which has a rich history in Russian culture.
Apparently Timur Bekmambetov, who is co-producing this, said that it is «...the Russian response to «Transformers» and «Batman», which means it's more about superheroes and robots than it is the science of a flying car.»
