Swan Lake by Peter Tchaikovsky

Perhaps the most popular ballet in the world. The ballet Swan Lake (Lebedinoye Ozero - Rus.) was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875-1876. Many critics have claimed Swan Lake as a national ballet due to fact that a swan is originated from Russian romantic lyric sources. The image of the swan and the very idea of a faithful love are essentially Russian.
Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece is the most revered of classical ballets. Though the exact interpretation of the swan is still uncertain, no one could beat Anna Pavlova’s vanguard performance.

Nutcracker

Composer: Pyotr Tchaikovsky
Conductor: Victor Lyagas

A fairy tale-ballet in two acts, three scenes, by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed in 1891–92.
The audience did not appreciate Nutcracker as Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty in XIXth century. But later the genius score by Pyotr Tchaikovsky was a great success. The Nutcracker ballet is based on the story The Nutcracker and the King of Mice written by E.T.A. Hoffman. Although what is seen on the stage today is different in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same.

The Russian libretto, by the composer, is based on the like-named play by Alexander Ostrovsky (which had premiered in 1873 with incidental music by Tchaikovsky). Russian Movie

Tsar

Directed by Pavel Lungin

The movie was premiered at Cannes last May, where it was included in the festival's Un Certain Regard section.
With a production budget of $15 million, Tsar became one of the priciest domestic movies released this year. Expensive custom-built sets went up on the premises of Spaso-Yevfimiev monastery in the town of Suzdal, north east of Moscow. The sets, alongside carefully recreated period costumes, make the movie one of the richest productions in recent history of the Russian film industry.
In XVIth-century Russia in the grip of chaos, Ivan the Terrible strongly believes he is vested with a holy mission. Believing he can understand and interpret the signs, he sees the Last Judgment approaching. He establishes absolute power, cruelly destroying anyone who gets in his way. During this reign of terror, Philip, the superior of the monastery on the Solovetsky Islands, a great scholar and Ivan's close friend, dares to oppose the sovereign's mystical tyranny. What follows is a clash between two completely opposite visions of the world, smashing morality and justice, God and men. A grand-scale film with excellent leading roles by Mamonov and Yankovsky.
