Swan Lake by Peter Tchaikovsky
Perhaps the most popular ballet in the world. The ballet «Swan Lake» («Lebedinoye Ozero»-Rus.) was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875-1876. The image of the swan and the very idea of a faithful love are essentially Russian. Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece is the most revered of classical ballets.

The Queen of Spades (Rus. - Pikovaya Dama) is an opera in 3 acts (7 scenes) by Pyotr Tchaikovsky to a Russian libretto by the composer's brother Modest Tchaikovsky, based on a short story of the same name by the greatest Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.
For a period the opera was commonly performed in French under the still recognized title Pique Dame. Nowadays, the opera is almost exclusively sung in Russian. There are several recordings of it, and it is frequently performed. While composing the music, Tchaikovsky actively edited the libretto. He substantially changed the text, entered scenic notes, made reductions, and wrote his own lyrics for arias for Yeletsky, Lisa, and the chorus.

Khovanshchina (or The Khovansky Affair) is a national music drama.
The opera based on historical Moscow Uprising of 1682 to 1689, its main themes are the struggle between progressive and reactionary political factions during the time of czar, Peter the Great, and the passing of old Muscovy before the czar's reforms.
Khovanshchina is a monumental work, more epic than dramatic maybe, but within its limitations powerful and thought-provoking.

Indisputably the world's greatest living violist, Yuri Bashmet has one simple ambition, to continue producing world class performances on the concert platform and on record.
His commitment to music and musicians is phenomenal, not only as a soloist either in concerto or in recital, but also as a chamber player, as a conductor of one of his two orchestras, and as a teacher, either at home in Moscow, at Siena every summer, and at the Kronberg International Academy.
Bashmet has been the inspiration (if not the commissioner) of a number of contemporary works which have laid the foundation for the solo viola repertoire for a new millennium, from composers such as Alfred Schnittke, Sofia Gubaidulina, Giya Kancheli, Mark-Anthony Turnage and Alexander Raskatov.

Charles Vapereau Photo Exhibition
Ekaterinburg History Museum and Alliance Francaise d'Ekaterinbourg under the auspices of the Embassy of France in Russia and French Cultural Center in Moscow present the photoexhibition of the French traveler Charles Vapereau (1847-1925).
In 1892 Charles Vapereau made a journey from Beijing to Paris for 112 days.
Charles Vapereau brought 150 negatives from his expedition. In 1894 the photos and the story about the travel were published in the magazine "Tour de Monde."

The Czech photographer Martin Wagner represents the young generation of the Czech photography.
He has held several personal exhibitions in the Czech Republic and in other countries.
He is a prize-winner of international contests Interkamera (1999), Czech Press Photo (2008), etc. He enjoys taking pictures in Russia and former Soviet Republics.
The exhibition includes photos taken in Wagners homeland as well as in Russia, which show everyday life of people. Martin Wagner takes a keen interest in life of ordinary people, who live in remote corners of Russia, like Siberian Old Believers, whalemen, hunters, fishermen, miners, and volcanologists.
