“Pervouralsk” may be translated as “the first in the Ural”.
It is famous for the monument that symbolizes the border between two continents—Europe and Asia.
The monument is located two kilometers from the town. The coat of arms also includes image of “Europe-Asia monument”.
In 1702 in this place, a prospector of the Utkinsaya Sloboda Feodor Rosov found iron ore deposit near Volchiha Mountain.
The history of Pervouralsk began in 1730, when Vasily Demidov began the construction of the iron-smelting works and the iron-making factory.
It has been producing pipes for more than 200 years. Cast iron was put in production on December 1st, 1732. This date is considered to be the date of foundation of the town.
The factory was given name “Shaytansky” and the village around the factory got the name Vasilyevsko-Shaytansky. In 1799 the Vasilyevsko-Shaytansky industrial community included 240 buildings and 1250 citizens. At the beginning of the XXth century, the plants of the Shaytansky region produced cast iron, sheet iron and steel shape.
A railroad was built near the village.
The Vasilyevsko-Shaytansky works first in the Ural started producing pipes. In September 2nd, 1920, it was re-named as “The first Ural plant of weldless and rolled pipes”.

The same year, the general meeting of citizens decided to give name to industrial community as “Pervouralsk”. Only in 1933 the village granted a town status. The factory was also renamed as “Pervouralsky Novotrubny Works”.
It was a rural area up until World War II when it became an industrial town serving as a major center for the manufacture of munitions. In 1941 using capacity of evacuated plant “Elektrik”, was established the first at the Ural electric welding equipment works. Later it was named as Novoutkinsky plant “Iskra”. During the War in Pervouralsk were evacuated two plants – Enakievsky foundry plant and plant “Metallist”.
The industrial landscape is determined the look of the town. The nearest international airport is Koltsovo in Ekaterinburg, (55 km from the town).
Pervouralsk now is the second fastest-developing city in Sverdlovsk region after Ekaterinburg.
The town attracts attention of large businesses—only within the last years there happened merges and acquisitions with Pervourask enterprises, such as “Wimm-Bill-Dann”, acquiring a diary plant in Pervouralsk and “Chelyabinsk Pipe Group”, the second largest in the country.
“Pervouralsky Novotrubny Works” was established in 1934. It has inherited the traditions and industrial standards of Ural craftsmen, whose products were renowned throughout Europe since XVIIth century. It supplies 25% of Russia's industrial tubes.
“Pervouralsk Plant of the Tubular Building Constructions” (PZTSK) is the leader in the field of metal constructing, wall and roofing panels in the Russian Federation since 1975.

“Pervouralsk Plant of Complete Metallic Construction” is one of the leading enterprises in Russia in the sphere of designing, producing and assembling of building and light metallic construction of complete delivery.
“Pervouralsk Silica Plant” (JSC “Dinur”) is a plant manufacturing shaped and monolithic refractories. The company is the only producer of silica bricks in Russia.
In July 21st, 2002, at the 270 year’s anniversary of Pervouralsk, the city authorities represented the new coat of arms. It symbolizes the history of the town. The sable is a symbol of town’s role in Siberia development. The image was taken from the merchant Demidov plant’s emblem. The ring in the middle represents a pipe cross-section.
In 1829 famous German scientists Humboldt and Rose visited Ural and determined the border between Asia and Europe - the pass from western slope of the Ural Mountains to the eastern slope. It situated near the Berezovaya Mountain (“Birch Mountain”). In 1837 the “Europe-Asia monument” was placed here.
Tourists attractions include also the concrete obelisk faced with black granite, which was built on the place where marble pyramid with a royal emblem used to stand. It symbolizes town gates – a historic monument that citizens are very proud.
